I'm a very hypocritical person. Granted, I don't act on the things I think about (God forbid! Seriously!), but I think good manners is highly overrated. For instance, what IS wrong with discussing bodily functions or war wounds or whatnot over the dinner table? I personally am not grossed out by such things and often want to tell what I think are amusing tales about when I couldn't make it to the toilet on time, and other gut-busting anecdotes. But NOOOOOOO, one doesn't speak of such things in polite company. But the hypocritical part, you see, is if good manners were abolished, nothing would stop others from insisting on talking about how fat and ugly I am, so I have to bite the bullet. |
