I'm sick of celebrities having lives!

Celebrity Net-heads... Not
I find it interesting that so many celebrities, particularly actors, are extraordinarily NON Web-savvy. Anyone who's chatted long enough, especially in chatrooms associated with a TV show or movie, has come across other chatters claiming to be an actor or crewmember. To date, I've come across people claiming to be Britney Spears, Jake Lloyd, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Nicholas Brendon. Of course there have been many more; those are just the ones I know of personally. The sad truth is that, outside of officially sanctioned chat events, where someone else feeds the questions to the celebs and types their responses for them, most celebs have had almost no contact with computers themselves, let alone surfin' on their own. A coworker told me he read an interview with Tim Burton shortly after Matt Drudge revealed the twist ending to the new Planet of the Apes movie. Burton was understandably upset with The Drudge Report for this, and frankly, so am I, if he really did do that. But Burton was saying odd things about the Net, such as references to "those people who run the Internet," and that "Net people... come from a dark place." This surprised me and my coworker, since we figured that Tim Burton of all people would get a kick out of so many of the oddball sites out there. Ex. animation sites and twisted parodies, etc. You know what I mean. But I suppose this means he doesn't know about the Burton-oriented online fan clubs I've joined, eh? Heh.
Of course there are a handful of celebs and others associated with The Industry who are very websavvy. They contribute to their own "official" websites, even if they might not be the webmasters themselves, but it's better than not knowing how to turn on a computer. I wouldn't want to do the coding for my own site, either, if I could pay someone else to. But like any fan of various celebs, I wish that more of them would stop having lives, even if artificially created ones. I've yet to see any interviews with celebs where they confess to being net-addicted, and that they just can't wait to get off work from their latest show or movie so they can log into the chatrooms. And yes, I see you Bronzers smirking to yourselves about the cast (well, SOME of the cast) and crew of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We all know how special you are. Give it a rest.
